Cynthia Vardhan

About the Artist:  "I make the pieces here by hand on my potters wheel in my downtown Columbus, Ohio studio. I carefully do every step of the process including mixing my own translucent porcelain and making custom colors which you will not find anywhere else. This bright porcelain showcases the rich colors I use in my patterns and paintings. I painstakingly decorate each piece with pigmented clay which makes the patterns raised above the surface, so you can both see and feel the patterns."
"I am jealous of women with manicures because as a potter, I can never keep polish on for more than a few hours. Clay permeates not only my nails, but my home and my life. Since age 13, through college and arty grad school, my skills in ceramics have evolved and grown to what you see today: gorgeous little pieces adorned with textured patterns you can stare at and touch for hours.  The inspiration for these patterns can come from anywhere- from European lace doilies and henna patterns from India to the traditional fabrics of West Africa & Bali."

About the Artist - Lyn Swan:  "I have been working in clay for as long as i can remember and am still very much addicted! I received a BFA in ceramics from RIT, School for the American Craftsman in New York. My home and studio are now in Sonoma California where I continue my never ending exploration of clay. I am currently working with a mid range porcelain, colorful glazes, sulfates, and gold luster. For the most part, my current work is hand built, as I am fascinated by the character and personality of each individual piece, so whimsical, so entertaining! Peiffer Studios

Statement of the Artist:  "Peiffer Studios is a labor of love for my husband Will and I (Brooke.) We love working with clay though our time with it is limited...we have a five year old son, Gabriel. We work at home in our kitchen, on the deck and in the garage, where we keep the kiln. We love to watch movies and listen to music. Will enjoys tending to his unusual fish collection and I enjoy photography, sewing, collaging and decorating. I work full time as a high school ceramics instructor, and Will gets to stay home and play with Gabriel! We have a Jack Russel Terrier named Katie who enjoys digging and root pulling and the occaisional romp around the neighborhood at night, with us trying to find her. Will and I both hold degrees from Michigan State University. His is in Anthropology and mine is in Art Education. Mudman 44

Statement of Artist:  "As a painter it was by fate that I was drawn into the world of pottery. Upon acquiring a ceramics teaching position in the late 1990's I quickly began teaching myself how to create and produce both hand-built and wheel thrown pottery. I enjoyed immediately the way the clay reacted and interacted with me. Five years ago I decided to start a series and create a body of work, using only black underglaze on the white surface of the unfired clay. The initial images on my work were mostly geometric, but I soon began to add more abstract shapes, surreal images and symbols to the varied forms I had thrown. The Mud Place

From the Artist:  "I'm a Ceramic Artist specialising in Porcelain and Stoneware Sculptures, Water Etched Porcelain, Wall Art and Buttons. Variety is the spice of life.  I work from my studio (aka, the shed at the end of garden) in Cheshire, England.  I make things that appeal to me, the kind of things I'd like to keep.  It's a luxury I can't really afford, but it's what keeps me inspired. Some mornings I wake up wanting to manhandle a sculpture, or I may spend months obsessing over a couple of buttons."

I have always loved the free flow of design along with a twist of whimsicality. I'm not saying I will never create something structured. But just at this moment in time I Love being a bit more free with my pieces. Each one is unique, no matter if I am submerging my fingers in Clay, Paint or Fabric. I have a passion for nature and I feel each piece reflects that...
