Art for Little People

About the Artist:  "The decision to do anthropomorphic animal characters was inspired by my memories of reading books like Rupert Bear and the work of illustrators like Richard Scarry. As for the themes for the pictures, I just chose things that I enjoy. I like lighthouses, I like to read about naval history in the age of the tall ships and I enjoy sci-fi shows and books, and so they have become the themes for my pictures. They might be cartoony in style but I make sure I do my research and gather hundreds of reference pictures on my subjects before I set about drawing and painting them. Making sure I get the period uniform of a Royal Navy Marine from Nelson’s navy as accurate as I can, might seem like an odd thing to do in a picture populated by caricatures of rabbits and rats but I suppose that’s one of my little foibles."

Jewel Renee

Statement from the Artist:  "As an illustrator, I have a special affinity for color, pattern and line quality. As a scared scared-y pants, I have a strong aversion for things that could touch me when I swim. I am using illustration as therapy to get over this and possibly enable me to snorkel some day. Truly, this is a girl after my own heart.  Our mutual love of sea creatures and all things reminiscent of sea life have formed an underlying appreciation for each other's respective talents.  I began following her blog in which she chronicles the ongoing progress of her illustratons and I found it a very easy and interesting read.  She is quite candid about her inspiration, her methods and outlining the journey as each piece develops.  I am a big fan.  If you'd like to see more, and I suggest that you should, you can click on either one of the links above to visit her etsy shop or the blog and learn more interesting tidbits about the lovely Jewel Renee.

ME Art Design

I was definitely pulled into exploring this print because of the colors and tones used.  I haven't really come across this combination before and I must say I like it alot and find it very interesting.  I also think this would work well in a number of room styles - classic, modern, cottage, traditional.  Click on the post title to visit the shop and see more lovely color combinations from this artist.

This is really a striking piece, and would be just perfect in a modern room design.  Her use of color and styling in this piece is crazy good.  And really affordable art, too!  She does a series of butterflies and insects, and if you click on the post title, it will take you to her shop, posthaste!
