From the Artist::  "This project was made as part of my BFA Honours degree. A bed deconstructed into 25 separate layers, beggining with the detritus beneath the bed, bed frame and mattress and built up with layers of sheets, pillows, sleeping bodies and blankets. The prints nestle snugly inside a box, safe and secured, but can be opened up and spread out, peeling away layers until the body hidden beneath is exposed. An attempt at portraying the safety and comfort of sleep alongside the vulnerability of the sleeper simultaneously."

"I love to work with paper and anything that can be put on paper . I like to scribble & work with processes that are an extension of drawing, like printmaking & collage. I'm keen on repetition, recycling (materials and ideas) and lately particularly taken with the subject of sleep."

About this artist:  "I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, painting for about six years now, and pulling linocut prints for just under a year. I don't know exactly where my style developed from, but some of my favorite artists are the Impressionists, Aubrey Beardsley and Alphonse Mucha if that tells you anything.  I love art in all it's forms and would be happy to argue all day with you about exactly what defines it. At the same time, I think art should be affordable and accessible to everyone. That's why you can find my limited edition notecards at such affordable prices along with completely original works for low prices. Three Trees Bindery

From the Artist:  "I am a (primarily) self-taught book artist who also loves to play with metal, wood and whatever else strikes me on any given day. I am absolutely entranced by the beauty of the natural world. My work in some form is always inspired by nature. I have been binding books for about 16 years and have been delighted to see the way books as an art form have expanded over that time.

Over the years, I have often wondered why I am so drawn to book binding. Anyone who has ever made a book can tell you it is a solitary and often tedious practice. I have spent countless hours and often even days working on covers, carefully hand tearing paper, sewing the binding. Why so much effort to create a humble blank book?

For me, the making of a blank book is only the beginning of the creative process. I am one thread in the fabric that will continue to unfold as the books fall into the hands and lives of others. And I love that idea. With other art forms I have participated in, the act of creation seems quite finished when I am decidedly done. People can view your completed work of art, and in this way participate and bring their own meaning to the work. But books invite and truly demand the viewer to participate in the continuing expansion of the art. I love that my work will be filled with your astounding words and pictures. And then other people will step in to view and again participate in a constantly expanding creative process."

Sunny and Stumpy

Beautiful, handcrafted ranunculus flowers -- tiny for your cake! Created with short stems and a circle of wax paper behind them to preserve their beauty and protect them from frosting.   This maker was so inspired by her recent wedding that she is going forward now as a seller and creating many accents that she used in her own wedding.  To visit her shop, click on the post title above.

Amritaks

This is a beautiful and delicate hand cut artist book about a bear’s journey through a forest. It is written, illustrated and lovingly hand cut by myself. The book is approximately A5 in size, cut on Daler Rowney mint canford paper and is signed on the last page. There are exactly 18 cut pages inside and only 15 books made. This unique book would be great for an artist's book collector or to give as a luxury gift.
