Ai Clay
Artist Statement: "Before I stumbled upon the world of polymer clay and sculpting, I was feeling pretty lost in a world where everybody else seemed to harbour dreams and aspirations, until I picked up my first slab of clay. As I poured my heart into sculpting, the hours just slipped by, and I knew this was my calling. Even though I hold a university degree in a very much unrelated discipline (Communications and New Media), I've stood by my passion and am proud to call AiClay my own. Oh, and some interesting facts about the name AiClay. It has an underlying double meaning. Ai is the first word of my Chinese name, and it also means 'love' in Mandarin. Therefore, the brand has got that bit in me, and appropriately shouts that here is a shop all about the love for clay. To read more about her work visit the site: http://www.aiclay.com/. Sky Bird Arts
Statement from the Artist: "My artistic career began with artist parents. I studied at a fine arts high school and have a BFA in fine arts. I work in many mediums. I am a painter and collage artist, clay artist, sculptor, designer, writer, singer, mother & have had some very interesting jobs. I live and work in a beautiful woodsy spot near Lake Michigan, which is always inspiring. I love working in high-fire clay because it has the capacity to travel through time. Consider that in purchasing a stoneware mug, for example, you have something that can be passed from generation to generation, potentially lasting for hundreds, even thousands of years."
