Statement of Artist: "As a painter it was by fate that I was drawn into the world of pottery. Upon acquiring a ceramics teaching position in the late 1990's I quickly began teaching myself how to create and produce both hand-built and wheel thrown pottery. I enjoyed immediately the way the clay reacted and interacted with me. Five years ago I decided to start a series and create a body of work, using only black underglaze on the white surface of the unfired clay. The initial images on my work were mostly geometric, but I soon began to add more abstract shapes, surreal images and symbols to the varied forms I had thrown. My love of art history and my interest in learning about philosophy and various religions has continued throughout my life to inspire and guide me."
